Our Philosophy

Kristen grew up in a traditional boarding and show program and was successful in eventing and the show ring. She understands firsthand the structure, discipline, and dedication that competitive programs require. That experience built her foundation.Over time, however, we began asking deeper questions about long-term well-being — especially for horses transitioning out of active careers. Before marrying Kristen and joining the farm full-time, Ben worked as a correctional officer in a maximum-security facility where individuals were confined for 23 hours a day. That experience shaped many of our conversations about movement, confinement, and overall well-being.Horses are not designed to live behind stall doors for most of their day.At Follow Me Farm, weather permitting, we provide approximately 12+ hours of daily turnout. Horses are thoughtfully matched by sex and individual needs, and once placed in compatible herd groups, we prioritize stability to reduce stress and promote calm, healthy social behavior. The life of a horse should include movement, sunshine, grazing, and companionship — from their herd mates and their humans.Stalls are used for rest and protection — not long-term confinement.Simply put, we believe horses deserve to live by horse standards, not human standards.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is included in full-care boarding?Full-care boarding includes daily turnout (weather permitting), stable herd group management, stall cleaning, feeding of our farm hay and grain program, blanketing as needed, and consistent daily oversight. We manage each horse with steady routines and clear communication. Can I provide my own hay?Because our horses are turned out in herd groups for approximately 12+ hours daily, we use our own farm hay program in both stalls and pastures. Logistically, we are not set up for individual pastures or separate hay feeding within group turnout. Our hay program is consistent and designed to support overall herd health. Can I provide my own supplements?Yes. Owners provide any supplements their horse requires, and we administer them according to the owner’s instructions during regular feeding times. Supplements must be clearly labeled and pre-measured for efficiency and accuracy. What is your blanketing policy? We blanket based on weather conditions and each horse’s individual needs. We work closely with owners to determine appropriate temperature guidelines. Blankets are stored on-site, labeled, and rotated as conditions change. Not all horses require blanketing, but those who do are managed consistently.Do horses still get movement during bad weather?Yes. When weather limits pasture turnout, we rotate horses through the indoor arena to ensure they continue receiving daily movement. Movement is foundational to our care philosophy, and we prioritize it even during challenging conditions.Do you offer individualized or special-needs care?We are happy to discuss special circumstances during a tour. Because we operate with structured herd turnout and steady routines, certain accommodations may require adjustments to pricing or management. All special requests are evaluated carefully to ensure they align with our overall care model. What are your visiting hours? For boarders our hours are from 9am-9pm, and tours by appointment only.Do you hold horses for vet or farrier visits? We have a barn vet and farrier, if you choose to use a different vet or farrier you are responsible for catching your horse for the appointment and holding the horse for the appointment.
How are herd groups managed?Herd groups are on average 6 to 7 horses. We separate the gildings and the mares into different herds.Do you require a contract?Yes — written boarding agreement required.
Is there a minimum commitment?Yes, we require a 30-day notice, and deposit required.Do you offer partial care or self-care?
